He aspires to become a high school physics teacher, and working with young people is something he sees not only as meaningful in the present, but as an important step toward his future career.

Abel Haile
This is Abel, one of the youth at AYCC. Abel shares how he has found a newfound sense of community through the program. At its core, one of AYCC’s goals is to provide children with a strong sense of belonging while also supporting them academically through homework help. Research shows that when youth have positive relationships with peers and safe, supportive adults, it improves multiple areas of their lives and serves as a protective buffer against risk. By surrounding youth with positivity and community, we create a strong foundation that helps them engage more easily and succeed in school once their basic need for connection is met.
